Painting and other randomness

Sometimes just a little paint and a change of color is all it takes to make the changes that can make you smile.

I have been moving some furniture around the last month.
I sold our sofa to a neighbor and had plans of purchasing another one.

I have owned a Drexel heritage sofa for almost 30 yrs and let me tell you this sofa has been everywhere.

It even resided in our store for several years.
The last 10 years it has been in our back room.
I kept it covered with seasonal quilts and one of our dogs thought it was hers.

After the sofa was gone my hubs and I were sitting watching TV and I asked if he would help me move the sofa into our empty spot.
We both agreed it looks great.
Not the usual look that you see, but that has always been my style.
It didn't take me long to pick out fabric and get some new ideas for the sofa.
It was unfortunate that our upholster couldn't get to it anytime soon so it sits in the living room with the old plaid fabric of yesteryear. Lol
The changes in the rooms got me to thinking of the vacated sofa in the back room
The kids play in this area so I didn't want to junk it up with a lot of furniture again.

The secretary in this room has been closed up but now it is opened
It adorns a lamp and a newly purchased chair.
As you can see the chair has really good "bones" and all it needs is a little TLC.

With Cece Caldwell paint in hand it has been transformed.
I am so happy with the outcome.
Makes the area so much more inviting.
The grand kids like it as well
Great place to color and write!!

As soon as the sofa gets the fresh new fabric in it I will post a picture of it.

I hope everyone has been able to get a project or two done this year that puts a smile on their face.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year friends.

Bureau gets a new home

Our daughter in law knew I was out cruising Garage Sales a few weeks ago.  She sent me a pic and told me to be on the look out for a piece of furniture she could redo.  Sounds like a mission to me.

Wish I could say I found the piece at the next garage sale I went to, but instead, I found our grandson the cutest little Jeep bicycle....but that is another story.

I sent the inspiration pic to my good friend Phil.  He tells me he has a piece in storage that might fit the bill.  He said when he was over there the next time, he would send me a picture.

A few days have passed,  and I get a text with a picture attached.  I immediately love the piece.  I forward it to our daughter in law.  She is a teacher and the last thing she wants to think about is a furniture piece.  First thoughts from her is that she thinks it might be too tall.

Forward a week, and my husband and I are at the kids house as my son and him are going to install these wonderful new plugs in a couple of areas for them.  These plugs are the best things that have been invented if you are needing USB plugs.

Back to the bureau.  I asked Heather if she had thought much more about the furniture.  We get a tape out and measure the area she is wanting to put this said piece.  Looks like we have a winner after all.  She is thinking it will work great.  I make a call to Phil and ask if he still has the piece, and he says yes he does.  Consider it sold!!!!

Now for the fun part.  Our daughter in law is in love with chalk paint....almost as much as I am.  I don't think the piece sat in the garage for just a few hours, and she was on it.  She got the first coat of paint on it and let it dry for the rest of the night.

She has now put the second coat on and it has dried.  She has also distressed it.  Oh wow, this is really looking good.  The drawers are going to remain the original mahogany color.  They are a bit scratched, so Howard Refinish is used to clean them up and cover the scratches.

The piece was missing 2 pulls, so now the search to replace the originals or find 2 that match the originals.  The piece is made by Thomasville and it such a sturdy addition to their furniture.

So excited to see the new piece of furniture getting placed in its new home.  The accessories have been chosen,  and it has really been a fun project to see blossom.

Heather used CeCe Caldwell paint in the color of Simply White.  The Howard Refinish is mahogany.

The finished product!!!

Ding Dong

We are finally getting a little bit of nice Spring weather and now it's time to get a few projects done around the house.

Normally I would tackle this seemingly simple task, but after our Electrical friend warned me of possibly loosing the wire I opted for my husband to do it.

What project am I speaking of.  A door bell button......sounds simple right!  Well, all I can say is I am glad I didn't attempt.  I even suggested " forgetting" it as I watched my husband mess with it.

After about 3 trips to the shop, and digging around in my box of parts, he made the bell ring again.

I just love the new look.  Can't wait until someone comes to the house to use it.  I know, it's kinda crazy to be excited for a new door bell button, but it doesn't take much for me.

Hope your projects are moving along smoothly.  I am going to go back outside and admire the newest addition to the front porch.

Have a great week, and tackle a project, even if it is a small one.

I'm Seeing "Red"

Does an idea just pop in your head sometimes?  Well, I am here to tell you, I have been thinking about my bar stools.  They are just these ugly wooden plain ole things.  They need something.  I have thought about colors to paint them...turquoise?  Yellow?  Nope, it's settled.....going to use the color red.

I am not sure if I chose this color because of all the "red" that I am seeing on the internet due to the up and coming Valentines day or not, but I just know, "red" is the color I need.

I have had a sample "Traverse City Cherry" for quite some time.  It isn't that deep barn red color that I really love, but a much brighter red.  Heck, might as well try it...It IS only paint, you know.  If I totally hate it, I can always go to Plan "B".

After the paint brush!

The Polar Vortex and all this other weather is about to wear me thin, and I am getting bored with being stuck inside....and when that happens, you better look out, because I might just paint something.

The last statement brings me full circle.  I have paint brush and paint in here goes.

I think I am going to like the outcome.  Are you ready to take the plunge and paint something!!!

My color selection actually comes from this table setting that I have in the kitchen area.  You see, I have a larger table that has a turquoise painted top on it...I found this wonderful table square about a year ago, and I have just loved the pop of color that it adds to the kitchen.

The wonderful little cups came from a quick run into Starbucks over the holidays.  I saw them, and they were on sale, so you know the rest of that story.  :)

The I-phone pic doesn't really do the color justice, but you get the idea.  I think it has gotten me out of my funk.  I am really liking the pop of color.  So for now, I am Happy, Happy, Happy.  :)
Happy, Happy, Happy

Antique Stove Obsession (again)

Me, have an obsession?...well, of course I do.  I love "stuff" and you know what that means.  I love to collect and move and change things.  There is one thing that I have had in my home for about 5 yrs. now and I just love them.  I wrote a blog about these stoves in 2012 and you can read it here( Stove obsession ) and the only reason I am writing about them again, is that I was over at Darla & Tommy's and his little shop was overflowing with these beauties.

Tommy is pretty obsessed with these things of the past.  With each year that passes, they are becoming harder and harder to find.  I just love what he is able to do with them, and keep the nostalgia of years gone by still in our homes....and they are safe.

I was at their home and took several pictures of a few of the treasures that he has finished and wanted to share them with you.  They are for sale, and if you are interested in purchasing one, please contact me and I will get you to the right people.  You see, Tommy is retired and this is how he loves to spend his day.  Keeps him active and our from under Darla's feet...LOL.

Hope you enjoy these as much as I there a "special" place in your home that one of these jewels would fit in.  If so, I know where you can get one.

Due to the delicate nature of these antiques, we can not ship.  If you are in the Oklahoma City area, you are welcome to look at the stoves they have in stock at that time.  Thanks for your understanding.
