After the Barn Sale and a can of Chalk Paint 10-19-12

God is great, God is Good, We thank him for this food.
I had the big ole Barn Sale last weekend, and the weather didn't want to cooperate, but at least everything was in a dry area.  Had some really nice people come and buy some of the "stuff"....just didn't get rid of all of it.

It has all been boxed up and waiting for a friend to come and pick it up because they are doing a fund raiser for someone they know that has a lot of medical issues.  Hopefully they can make some money for them with our left overs.  Now when I say leftovers, I mean about 2 pickup loads of "stuff".

I was totally amazed at what sold and what didn't.  I had some really nice accessories that I felt were shop worn, and time to get rid of.  They didn't sell...Some really nice crocheted afghans and doilies.  Nope, they are still there.  Strange what sells, and what sits.

My mom did some much needed deep cleaning, and she brought over a lot of things that were hand made from my grandma, and hey, I know I don't want them, and I really know my kids aren't interested, so might as well go ahead and part with them.

One of the things she brought were these hard shelled place mats.  I looked at them, and decided they had to be mine.  No one even looked at them.  I had plans for these babies.  They were going to get a coat of chalk paint, and then everyone that didn't buy they would be so jealous....LOL.

I got the place mats out, and cleaned them with soap and water.  In a matter of minutes, I had all 4 of them painted with my spray chalk paint.  Side note to this is if something is sitting around long enough, it will either be painted with chalk paint  or glittered.....  (I even painted the rusty ole refrigerator that sits in our garage holding all the pop and water and beer.  Looks really cute, and I put a note on it for my husband to have a great day.   Hope he notices it!!!)

OK, back to the place mats.  They are finished and sitting on the kitchen table.  Now, what do I write on them???  I am not a graphic artist person, but I went ahead a wrote a simple little prayer on each of them.  I think it turned out cute!!!

You know the old adage, "one mans junk is another mans treasure"....I think this is proof of it.  What junk have you turned into treasure lately?

Another Milk Paint project

I found the cutest little cabinet at a garage sale.  The lady said she had started painting it, and gave up.  I thought it was perfect for a Milk Paint project.  It is a very bright pink and the shutter areas are painted white.

I started painting it with the color California Mud, by CC Caldwell's Paint.  The thing I really LOVE about the Milk Paint is the no prep!!!  If you are like me and  just likes to start painting, then Milk Paint will be your best buddy.

I put two coats of paint on it.  I have been looking for Miss Mustard Seed products here in the Oklahoma City area, and haven't come up with anyone that is carrying it yet.  I had been watching her videos about waxing the product when you are finished.  This cabinet was a perfect piece to try the wax technique on.  I just used some Johnson's Paste Wax.  Seems to work very well.  I really like the way it finishes off a piece.

Here is a final picture of the little cabinet.  I went to Hobby Lobby and found some really cute and blingy pulls for it.  Think it just adds so much to the otherwise very simple piece of furniture.
I think I am going to take it home and see if I can find a special place for it.  :)

I am still digging stuff out for my 'Barn Sale" wherever it ends up in the house, maybe the piece I get rid of will go to the sale.  :)  Kinda my rule...If something new comes in, I should get rid of something.  Ha!!!  Like that works..

Have a great weekend.  :)

Prepairing for a Barn (Garage) Sale

I am busy cleaning out the store and the house so I can get some of this wonderful stuff out of my house and store and into a new place.....LOL.....Planning on having a sale at the house in the new barn that finally has a concrete floor in it.

I think a party would be so much more fun, but I have to get some of this stuff gone.   Too darn much stuff.  Organize and clean out....  :)

As I was digging out under one of the beds, I found a lot of art that is going to be in the sale.  I also found a wonderful piece that a friend had given me a few years ago.  It is so fitting for the fall season, and it makes me so happy to have found it.

The friend that made this owns a framing shop next to my shop.  She is a very talented artist, and she painted the leaves around the poem as well as writing the poem on the matte board.  I just love it, and the little poem she tells me is something she has had for many years.

Hope you enjoy as much as I do.

Happy October everyone.
