Happy Fall Ya'll....Front porch is ready!

I have been getting the fall colors out as you know, and it has continued to the outside now.  I purchased the cutest old orange tool box from a fellow blogger that has an Etsy shop knickoftimeinteriors.blogspot.com  and I am totally in love with it.  Mine doesn't have the smile on the front like hers, but I am so in love with the little thing.  You might want to check out her blog as well as her shop.

The other decorations are from years past.  Have to say, it is refreshing to look at the autumn colors.  Tomorrow, Saturday, is the first day of Fall...so with that being said....Happy Fall Ya"ll!!!!

Our porch is very long, and this is just one side of it.  Still working on the rest of it.  With that being said, there will be more to come!!!

More Milk Painting (I"m on a roll)

I got the urge to paint a piece that is over our bed.  I have been wanting to do it for quite some time, but just didn't know what I wanted. I really do like the milk paints, so guess I know what I am going to do.

Love that there is no prep work to use this stuff.  The color California Gold was my choice.  I applied one coat and have to say, I was wondering what the heck had I done.  By the time I got the second coat on, I was a little happier.  After it dried, I got the sand paper out, and started distressing it a little.

All in all I think it turned out great.  It is back in its place, and the accessories are the same as before.  Going to have to work on that part.

Planning on getting a "barn" garage sale together so now I am beginning to dig out all the things I am wanting to get rid of.  Of course, you know, this will leave room for "newer and better things"....that's just the way it is around here.  We girls just have to have our "stuff"....   :)

Fall is in the air around our house :)

The weather has cooled down quite a bit, and the smell of Fall is in the air.  Guess it is time to take down all the Summer decorations and put out something Fall.

I have to say the weather sure makes a person want to get busy and dress the house up with all the wonderful colors that accompany Fall.  I am so in love with the yellow sunflowers.  One color of yellow that I really do like.  I am also in love with the turquoise color that is everywhere this year.  With that being said, I found a great table cloth that inspired me in some of my colors that I am using this Fall.

This piece that is in the dining area was from my grandparents home.  It is really one of my favorites.  I remember snooping in that top drawer every time I would go to the farm to see them.  The things we remember from our childhoods are amazing sometimes.  The piece still has that same smell when you open the drawers.
The scales that I have displayed were a recent find for me.  I am so happy to be the proud owner of them.  Sometimes it is just the little things in life that can make us so happy.  :)

This area is next to the front door, and I always like to decorate it according to the season.  I am so proud of my little wooden cabinet that I was able to snag this summer at a local antique store.

This picture is looking into the living area, and I had to had a splash of color with a two sided wreath on the table behind the sofa.

Thanks for stopping by and hopefully I have inspired you just a little to get those Fall decorations out and get busy decorating.  Have a great day!!!

Chalk Paint

Yes please, one in every color...and I will paint every piece of furniture in the house.  Watch out dogs, I might even try it on you.
Not sure if I am the only one that hasn't used the newest rage in paint or not, but I am so glad I finally tried it.  I can truly say it goes on very easily, and is pretty much fool proof.

I have had an oak clock that I love for many years hanging in the kitchen area.  I have wanted to do something to it, and all I could think of was to paint it black.  While visiting one of my favorite places to shop, The Feathered Nest, I came across the chalk paint.  They actually have "samples" that you can purchase just in case you aren't sure if the color or texture.  Best $7.50 I have ever spent.  I really do like it.
I painted 2 coats of chalk paint on the clock.  Took out some sandpaper, and roughed it up a bit.....then I got the turquoise blue paint out and added in some random areas.  Here is what I ended up with, and I am very pleased with it.  Makes me feel like I have a new piece of "stuff" in the house.
I am sorry I failed to take a before pic...I will work on that for future pics.  :)

9-13-12 Just some stuff

I have been doing a personal "blog" for about 2 years now.  I love to write about our motorcycle rides.  I have followed quite a few other blogs, and of course, the ones I really enjoy is the decorating ones.  If you would like to follow my personal blog the address is www.mylifeasweknowit

There are so many ideas out there, and it is so much fun to read what other people are doing with old pieces of furniture and also painting techniques.  I have just gotten my first "chalk paint", and I have to say I am totally in love with it.  I have only used it on one small clock at this point, but I can tell you there will be more.

Before
During

As fall approaches we all want to start changing some of the things in the house.  I was able to take some fabric and within a few minutes, take a plain ole bookshelf, and give it some new life.  This is what is so fun about decorating, because there is no rhyme or reason for doing some stuff.  Just whatever you want to do, it is in style.

Finished!!!!

This summer has really been hot here in Oklahoma, and I have to say the big thing that I have sold a lot of is the Solar Shades.  They are so versatile, and really can fill the need for about anything, EXCEPT privacy.  People are of the belief that you can not see through them at night, and this is totally wrong.  They are a wonderful product, and do the trick on glare and fading, but if you are wanting privacy, they are not for you.

Before Solar Shades

After Solar Shades

I am going to attempt to add projects that I have attempted myself on this blog.  I am sure you will see some that you like, and then you will see some that you wonder what I was even thinking.  This should be fun, and a way for me to express some of my creativity.  LOL....

Let me tell you a little bit about myself

My name is Diane Higdon, and I am the owner of Blinds & Designs Too, in Oklahoma City.  You may wonder what the Too is for in my store name.  At one time we had two stores in the Oklahoma City area, and the Too, was a play on the quantity 2 and "also" as well.

I have been in the decorating business for a very long time.  I have owned my store since 1981.  There have been a lot of ups and downs in the business, and many time I have thought I would just like to get out and "get a real job", but things always seem to work out and I am still here after all these years.  I am so very lucky to be able to come to work every day, and enjoy it.  I think that says a lot for this work I do.

The store has evolved in many ways through the years.  We used to sell wallpaper....and you know where that is going.  Not a lot of wallpaper being used in the past years.  More faux finishes on the walls.  We used to carry a line of bedspreads, coverlets, and comforters called Nettle Creek....The decline of custom made bedding and the economy lead to the demise of that company.  Seems like everyone sells bedding and accessories anymore.  No need for that "custom" look.  But, if you find you are needing one made, we can handle that need.

I have been able to tailor the store down to custom blinds, draperies, and upholstery. Our pricing is much better than the box stores, and you get some personal attention along the way.

I love to change things around in the house, and have always wanted to have an outlet to show pictures of what I have done, so I am hoping I can blog about those accomplishments, or failures here on this page.

Hope you find it interesting enough to "follow" me.  If you have any ideas, or questions, maybe we can use this forum to get you the results that you are wanting to make your home and life "just the way you want it".  You can also find the store on Facebook.

Enjoy and lets Decorate.
